Concussion Recovery Program

Head injuries can certainly be very difficult, but we can help them to be more manageable.  In recent years, medical providers have become more diligent in diagnosing concussions.  The increased awareness has caused schools and athletic associations to change rules and equipment to protect athletes.  When we identify concussions, it gives us the opportunity to do something about them.  The effects of concussions are accumulative and they can have lasting effects if not treated properly.  Recent studies have shown that ACT scores were as much as two points lower in athletes with more than two untreated concussions.  Therapists at Manual Solutions Physical Therapy have specialized training to treat concussions.  We guide you through the process of returning to mental and physical activity.    We specifically assess the need for:

  1. Brain rest (overstimulation can cause additional symptoms and delays healing)

  2. Cranial mobilization

  3. Muscular instability / weakness in the neck

  4. Eye tracking, balance and muscular coordination.

  5. Cranial nerve mobilization

  6. Neural mobility / ability of nerves to glide without being pinched or stretched

Concussions can be scary, but they can be treated.  Whether you have had a serious concussion or taken a minor blow to the head, let us help you to identify and treat the effects of the accident.
